Commissioner Dr. Nathan Jones Announces Departure from NCSER

On Monday, National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) Commissioner Dr. Nathan Jones announced his departure from NCSER, explaining that he will return to the special education faculty at Boston University. In a blog post, Jones thanked the staff, reflected on NCSER's accomplishments during his three-year tenure, highlighted successful collaborations, and identified several unresolved challenges. He also outlined strategic opportunities for both NCSER and the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to strengthen their impact. Among his recommendations were enhancing the usefulness of research by developing more practitioner-focused products and tools, accelerating the research and dissemination process to provide educators and policymakers with more timely and relevant evidence, and adopting innovation and scaling strategies similar to the National Center for Education Research's (NCER) Accelerate, Transform, Scale initiative to expand the implementation of effective special education practices.
